KIEV, Jul 22 (PRIME) -- Kiev plans to analyze the economic part of the agreements between the U.S. and Germany on Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said at a briefing on Thursday.
"Concerning the economic part of this statement (of the U.S. and Germany on Nord Stream 2), we are studying everything they told us, the proposals they made, and we will be ready to present our position when we analyze their offers in detail," Kuleba said.
Germany and the U.S. agreed on Wednesday to allow Russia to finish the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project but will apply sanctions if Moscow uses the pipeline against Ukraine.
The Nord Stream 2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom builds the pipeline together with Germany’s Uniper and Wintershall Dea, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
Kuleba added that Ukraine has many doubts about the mechanisms of protection of its energy market in the wake of the launch of the pipeline. It is also unclear whether Russia will fulfill its obligations under the deal.
